Renovation, optimalisation and maintenance Groningen gas fields

Of the 70 billion m3 of gas produced by the Netherlands every year, nearly half comes from the Groningen gas field. A few years ago, NAM decided on a thorough overhaul of the 29 gas extraction sites in the Groningen field. Bids were invited for the 15-year renovation and optimisation programme, and for maintenance on all these sites for the next 25 years.

Mission

The mission was to submit a design using state-of-the-art technology best suited to this task. Furthermore, all these gas extraction installations had to be able to operate unmanned and the Total Cost of Ownership had to be as low as possible. The winning design was the one submitted by the Stork GLT consortium.

Results

Together they are responsible for the renovation and maintenance of the GLT sites across the Groningen field. In partnership with NAM, Stork Maintenance Management set up the entire maintenance process. The consortium partners carry out maintenance activities on the sites. The renovation of the gas extraction sites has now begun, and the first have already been completed to the full satisfaction of all concerned.
