Maintenance Management of the luggageconclusionsystem

Each year around 45 million pieces of baggage pass through the hundreds of metres of baggage handling system at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol on their way to or from an aircraft. In view of the need to guarantee quick and efficient baggage handling both now and in the future, despite sharply increasing volume, the maintenance management of the baggage handling system has become increasingly important in recent years.

Mission

Stork Maintenance Management was therefore hired to make the maintenance management of this installation simpler and more transparent, so that the various maintenance activities can be carried out more efficiently and effectively.

Results

By analysing maintenance in stepwise fashion based on the underperformance risk (with an FMEA analysis), Stork Maintenance Management was able to increase the transparency of the baggage handling system. As a result the number of breakdowns fell significantly, the mean time between failures was increased and the availability of spare parts for critical system components rose to 100%.
